Understanding Antisemitism and Islamophobia

In this webinar, Michigan State University professors Yael Aronoff, Mohammad Khalil, Morgan Shipley and facilitator Ralph Johnson will share research and lived-context insights. Learn foundational information about both traditions and address common misconceptions, misrepresentations, and harmful stereotypes. All are invited to reflect, ask questions, and explore ways to strengthen a campus culture of respect and belonging.

Morgan Shipley

Morgan Shipley, Ph.D. Inaugural Foglio Endowed Chair of Spirituality and Associate Professor of Religious Studies

Dr. Shipley’s work focuses on the intersection of spirituality, identity, and pluralism, specifically exploring how secular and religious traditions impact human flourishing. He is a key contributor to MSU’s DEI efforts, utilizing a values-based, human-centered approach to foster empathy and community belonging among students and faculty.

Yael Aronoff

Yael Aronoff, Ph.D. Director of the Serling Institute for Jewish Studies and Modern Israel and Professor at James Madison College 

Dr. Aronoff serves on the University DEI Steering Committee and focuses her research on Israeli politics, culture, and conflict resolution. She is a primary organizer of campus-wide workshops aimed at modeling collaboration and building bridges between Jewish and Muslim communities to address prejudice and promote inclusion.

Mohammed Hassan Khalil

Mohammad Hassan Khalil, Ph.D. Director of the Muslim Studies Program and Professor of Religious Studies

Dr. Khalil is a leading expert in Islamic thought and serves on the university’s DEI Steering Committee. He frequently collaborates on interfaith workshops designed to recognize and combat Islamophobia and antisemitism, bringing extensive experience in navigating the intersection of religious and ethnic minority identities.

Ralph Johnson

Ralph Johnson Assistant Director of Education and Development Programs, Office for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion 

Ralph Johnson is a seasoned educator and facilitator dedicated to creating open, equitable, and inclusive learning environments across campus. He previously served as a civil rights advisor in MSU’s Office for Civil Rights and Title IX, where he specialized in procedural engagement and compliance regarding institutional policies.
