Message of Welcome

Welcome to the Western Washington University Office of Equity! This website is the central hub for information, resources, opportunities for engagement, and initiatives related to accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion (ADEI) at the University. The site is intended to celebrate and bring awareness to the many diverse communities here at Western.

ADEI is an essential component of the University's mission and values and is reflected in our strategic plan. We believe that diversity enriches our campuses, enhances the learning and working environment, and positions WWU as a leader in education, research, and community outreach at the state, regional, and local levels. Simply put, the diversity of our community is our strength.

Achieving meaningful transformation in ADEI is a collective effort. Whether you are a student, alumnus, staff, faculty, or a member of the surrounding communities, we invite you to join us in this vital work.

Vision

The Office of Equity is dedicated to fostering a deeper sense of equity, inclusion, and belonging in the broadest sense possible, to creating an environment that is free of discrimination and harassment, and where every member of our community feels that they are treated fairly and that they matter.

Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that Western Washington University is on the ancestral homelands of the Coast Salish Peoples, who have lived in the Salish Sea basin, throughout the San Juan Islands and the North Cascades watershed, from time immemorial. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our Indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
